Normal, a song I wrote for Disney’s the Hunchback of Notre Dame by Ellen
Quasi Speaks to himself:
Normal! Ha! He’ll see who’s normal. Master always says I’m not but what really
is normal? (Grabs Dictionary) N-n-normal, there it is! Let’s see… To be alike
everyone else, never apart from any crowd, see also similar, ordinary, regular…oh.
Well, Master must be right then. I am not normal. I am deformed and ugly, a….a….a….monster.
(Singing)
Monster?
Is that really the best you can do, God? I know deep down inside me I am
normal, whatever normal is. Down there, are they normal? For what really is
normal, I don’t know… Is normal to be perfect? Is normal to be ordinary? I don’t
know….I don’t know much but this is something that only God knows for sure…
I’m sure if people saw beyond
me
I’m sure they’d see one of
them
Of course my face is not the
prettiest
My back is hunched, ain’t
hard to see
But if they talked to me for
just a second
I’m sure they see me as
normal!
I’m sure if people saw beyond
me
I’m sure they’d see one of
them
Of course my face is not the
prettiest
My back is hunched, ain’t
hard to see
But if they talked to me for
just a second
I’m sure they see me as
normal!
I know I shouldn’t dare to
dream, that Esmerelda might love me… but when she looked at me, she didn’t see
what anyone else saw, she saw, what I saw, I am normal!!!
